Feast of St Charles of Mount Argus

Monday, 5th January is the Feast of St Charles of Mount Argus. Father Charles died at Mount Argus on this day in 1893, just two weeks after his seventy-first birthday. He had arrived at Mount Argus from England on 9 July 1857, having been born in Munstergeleen, in the Netherlands and ordained as a Passionist priest in Belgium. During his years in Ireland, he was well known in Dublin and beyond for his compassion for the sick and suffering. Every day at Mount Argus he blessed the people with the relic of St Paul of the Cross, the founder of the Passionists, and many were healed through his intercession, as they still are today.

Saint Charles, you knew what it is like
to live with sickness and pain.
We ask you to intercede for those who are sick.
May they know that, in their sickness,
the loving hand of God reaches out to them
with healing and hope for body and spirit.
May they learn to trust God
and place their lives in his hands. Amen.

The Mass for the Feast of St Charles will be at 10.00am on Monday 5th January.
