A FATHER’S LOVE
In a late summer
In the late fifties,
Leaning on a cock of hay
In Gough’s field,
He told me….
He, whose words were mostly
of work and wood,
He, who struggled with words
From the heart,
He told me….
He told me his thoughts
Were constantly with us, his children.
As a pendulum swings
Back and forth,
His thoughts, he said
Swung constantly back and forth
To me and Rosemarie, to Liam
and little Patricia.
But if anything was wrong
With any of us,
The pendulum stopped,
Stopped dead.
And his thoughts were with us
all the time.
Today Jesus returns to the Father who was in him and with him all the time!
