Review Teams - September 2003 |
|
In September 2003, four teams were set up to initiate the process.
In recent years, lay people all over the world have become more involved in their parishes and are now, alongside the ordained, taking responsibility for how they are run. Until 2003 the Mount Argus parish was managed by a ‘Core Group’ comprised of the four priests of the parish, the parish pastoral worker and a number of lay people. Following a period of reflection by this group a programme for parish renewal was initiated.
A team of volunteers was convened to work on various aspects of parish life – to analyse how things were done and to see how they could be improved in the future. This meant involve examining the role of the Core Group itself, other decision-making bodies and the various ministries. The focus was on asking what are the needs for the future and what support is required to enable the good work to continue and grow.
News of this initiative was communicated in the twice annual newsletter CommunityLink and also in the weekly Bulletin. A directory of all parish services and voluntary groups was compiled and distributed to all homes. People were invited to make their views known and to begin moving towards a collaborative parish.
