The Baptism team assists in the preparation for and celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism. They represent the larger Community by welcoming the child to be baptised and their families on their faith journey. We meet the parents and godparents on the Thursday night before the Baptism takes place; we explain their responsibility and duty to pass on the faith to their children. We explain the format for the ceremony and what the symbols represent and also help with the readings. Baptism is celebrated on the first and third Sunday of each month. Set up in October 1984 to look after cars during Sunday masses, they also organise stewarding for large funerals and festive occasions, Midnight Mass, Christmas and Easter. Over the years the number of volunteers has dwindled and new recruits would be warmly welcomed. Without the aid of our dedicated car park marshals life would be much more complicated in attending our liturgies! Contact Al Griffin, through the monastery – Phone 499 2000.

Family Groups come together in order to get to know and support each other just like an extended family. Family Group membership is open to all, young or old, widowed or single, married or separated. Groups meet once a month to share activities – a simple meal, a get together or an outing. Functions are low cost or no cost so that everyone can participate. Groups host a monthly coffee morning in the Blessed Charles Centre to which all are welcome. See also our notice board beside the Blessed Charles Shrine. For further information contact Yvonne or Hugh Gray, Family Group Co-ordinators, through the monastery, Phone 499 2000.

The Internet and the World Wide Web, as Communications Ministry, is assuming a greater role in the life of the Church. Today, millions around the world look to the web for information on a massive range of topics. Placing the parish in this digital world is the next step in providing not just the physical presence of our parish, represented in the magnificent church building of Mount Argus but also a digital presence for those looking in a different way. The Web Team was formed in 2004 to manage the website for the Parish of Mount Argus. The members of the team are: Eimear, Eoin, Fionnuala and Gerard. To contact the team, send an email to

The Christmas Crib at Mount Argus is one of the great traditions of the church. While it has changed over the years, it remains one of those jobs undertaken by a group of 'anonymous' volunteers who give of their time to recreate for us the Nativity in Bethlehem over 2,000 years ago. For children, it represents a real-life image of the story of the Birth of Jesus; for adults, a reminder of the simplicity of the life into which Jesus was born.
We are all grateful for the work of the Christmas Crib building team as well as all those who help to decorate the Church! |
Many visitors to our church comment on how well-kept it is, always clean, bright and tidy. A group of dedicated people come together once every week and set too - polishing, washing, sweeping, vacuuming, and dusting, so that the church always looks ready to welcome the next visitor to come through the doors. If you would like to volunteer your time, then make contact at the Reception Desk at the Monastery Door and they will point you in the right direction. |
A group of people decorate the Church with beautiful flower arrangements every week and particularly on special occasions. |
These are people who get the church ready for Sunday Masses and other special services. They distribute leaflets, candles, hymn-books as necessary and offer a smile and a welcome to people as they come in. |
