Irish Passionists Visit Munstergeleen

On Friday, April 20, a small groups of Passionists from Ireland travelled to the birthplace of Blessed Charles, a small town in the Dutch countryside called Munstergeleen.  There, they received a great welcome from the people and had a wonderful day, rich in memories.  The local newspaper "Daghblad de Limburger" published an account of the visit in the Sittard-Geleen local edition (see page to the left).  Translated, the sub-heading above the article title reads, " With Father Charles, a bit of Munstergeleen went to Dublin.  Yesterday, a bit of Dublin came to Munstergeleen.  During a one-day pilgrimage, the Irish administrators of the shrine of Blessed Father Charles came to the small shrine in Limburg" and the main title of the article reads, "An Irish day-pilgrimage to Father Charles.

In the main body of the article, Fr. Frank Keevins is quoted extensively.  He says that this is not his first visit and he was there about ten years ago.  Now he returns as the administrator of the tomb of Blessed Charles.  He makes a comparison between where Blessed Charles was born and lived for while and where is died and is now laid.  Fr. Frank also spoke about what Blessed Charles brought to Mount Argus and how the same places in Mount Argus that featured in his life contiue to feature in the everyday life of Mount Argus.  "With this visit, we bring a bit of the Irish Father Charles to Munstergeleen."

Fr. Frank also referred to the fact that the visit is taking place on a day of special significance, the second Friday after Good Friday.  He finished by saying that Blessed Charles would be the first to temper the devotion around his person - he would appreciate it but would also say, "God is the glory."
